Plant Based Electro Play, 2019
Demonstrative performance. Organized by Fiona Allison Duncan and Mara McKevitt.
“For this demonstrative performance we will teach you how to use common plants as implements for electro play using a Neon Wand and Power Tripper™ device. We demo using lavender, white sage, cannabis leaf and aloe vera. This performance was created in response to the prompts of the @pillo_0wtalk “Sex and Love in the City" event, and we chose to highlight plants that are common in what we call the Los Angeles "Wellness Industrial Complex". Please note that we do not encourage using these plants unless you have grown them yourselves or sourced them from a local grower. Especially when using white sage we encourage you to ONLY use when you have grown it yourselves and have educated yourself on the history of white sage use in Indigenous cultures. In this video we also demo using a sage smudge stick which was specific to the prompt of the event. We want to emphasize that we were using this smudge stick as a comment on the misappropriation of indigenous rituals by New Age and Neopagan practitioners, NOT because we want to encourage this kind of use. We feel the nuance of this commentary was lost to the time constraints our demo and we want to be sure to clarify that. We also firmly believe BDSM play is up to the players involved, so if you do choose to incorporate burning herbs into your play we urge you to educate yourself on the history of this practice and its widespread misuse.”
